STILL A

LONG WAY

THE COURSES

100 MILE

Make no mistake about it, the 100 mile course offers one of the toughest foot race challenges anywhere in the world. The terrain is unrelentingly rugged and mountainous; there are long sections of exposed ridge running; the trail conditions are frequently of a technical nature – and that’s where there IS a trail to follow; it is wild and remote; the weather can be unpredictable and there’s nowhere to hide if it turns nasty; in bad weather you’ll need to show some navigational prowess; there are only a few places where it is safe to drop out; you need to be experienced at being self-reliant in the mountains, day or night, in any conditions. The list of warnings goes on and on BUT we can also promise you some truly awe-inspiring scenery and an unforgettably epic adventure. This is the very definition of brutally beautiful.

FURTHER FASTER
50 MILER

While not as daunting as the 100 mile course, the Further Faster 50 miler still represents a significant challenge that you need to be properly prepared for. The same cautionary notes apply: this is not an event for people who are inexperienced in the mountains, no matter how much trail time they have under their belts. This is no ‘walk in the park’ even though most will end up walking significant chunks of it! But warnings aside, the Further Faster 50 miler, like its big sibling, offers a spectacular route through incredible terrain and an epic adventure to remember.

The Further Faster 50 miler course shares the same route as the 100 miler for the first 57k and the last 20k.

20 MILE

This is a real doozy of a course – km for km it has to be one of the most beautiful and rewarding trail races on the planet. We love this one! It’s very much a run of two halves: a cruisy, mostly downhill first 17km to Arrowtown followed by a much tougher, mostly uphill second half to close the loop and return to Coronet Peak. It’s like a potted version of its bigger siblings, exposing runners to a wide array of terrain: everything from mellow beech forest trail to rugged, exposed ridge running.

The course shares the first few kms and the final 18km with the 50 and 100 mile courses. What it doesn’t share with its bigger siblings is some primo single track trail that will have the ultra-crazies turning green with envy!
